Potluck Children’s Program

Tomorrow, December 20th is the Potluck Children’s Program at the Lone Rock School House in Camp Douglas at 7PM. Just bring your kids and a dish to pass. Santa will be stopping by, along with singing Christmas songs and telling of Christmas stories. Sponsored by the Lone Rock Community Club.

Elroy - See a Live Nativity 4:30PM-6:30PM Sunday December 8th at the Elroy United Methodist Church.

Necedah - December 15th is the Necedah Holiday Parade at 6PM. Bring donations for the Food Pantry and Toys for Tots - drop boxes are located in the lobby of The Bank of Mauston.

Toys for Joy

Donate toys for needy kids in the Mauston School District from now until December 9th at the following locations: Mauston Chamber of Commerce, WRJC, the Juneau Star-Times and many Mauston Area Churches.

Families who need a little help this holiday season can sign up for Toys for Joys at Hatch Public Library, the Mauston Food Pantry and the Job Service Department.

Waterfest

Looking for a Venetian Lights Boat Parade and don't want to go to Italy?

This Saturday, August 3rd, is Waterfest, including the 14th Annual Touchstone Energy Waterfest Venetian Lights Boat Parade on Castle Rock Lake.

The fun begins at 3PM with the Decorated Bicycle Parade and then enjoy a magic show, cream puffs, a visit with Smokey Bear, trains rides and more. 4th Annual Dairy Best

This Saturday head over to Veterans Memorial Park in Mauston for the 4th Annual Dairy Best.  Breakfast will be served from 7:30AM-11:30AM, tickets $6/Advance $8/At the Door.  Fun activities include 4-H and FFA displays, vintage tractors, petting zoo, hay rides, contests and more. Armed Forces Days in Camp Douglas

Family fun this weekend in Camp Douglas as they celebrate Armed Forces Days May 17th-19th at Nelson Park. 

All weekend you can check out the craft and vendor fair, the softball tournament, enjoy carnival rides and live music each day.  Friday don't miss the Rib Feed and Fireworks at dusk.  Saturday includes a run/walk, pancake breakfast and Honor Ride. And on Sunday there's a chicken dinner and the parade will begin at 2PM.

Fundraising for New Barn at the Juneau County Fairgrounds

A new barn is being planned for the Juneau County Fairgrounds in Mauston and the building will honor a local farmer who passed away last October.

Three months after a businessman jump-started fundraising for a new dairy barn at the Juneau County Fairgrounds, organizers have raised more than $37,000 for the project.

“We think it’s the beginning of a bright future for Veterans Memorial Park in Mauston,” said Joan Holig, one of the organizers behind fundraising to build the Robert Holig Dairy Pavilion to replace the old dairy barn at the fairgrounds, which is part of the park.

April 20th is a Busy Day

Four big events this Saturday in Juneau County - enough to keep you running all day long!

From 9:30AM to 3PM is the Spring Fling Craft and Gift Show at Olson Middle School in Mauston, with over 70 booths of great items.

Also Saturday morning is the Spring Fling Jamboree and Parade in Elroy.  Parade begins at 10:30 on Main Street, followed by Jamaboree in the Royall High School Commons at Noon. The show includes art by local artists, a bicycle clinic, a master gardeners clinic and seed sale, petting zoo and much more.

Getting hungry? Enjoy a Chicken Buffet from 5PM to 8PM at Wonewoc American Legion Post 206. All you can eat for $9/Adults $4/kids 12 and under. Carry outs will be available.

End the evening with Casino Night, 7PM to 10PM, at the American Legion Hall in Mauston. Tickets $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Fundraiser for the iLEAD Charter School.

Great Grey Owl Moves to Mauston

Rarely seen in Wisconsin, a Great Grey Owl has been spotted near Mauston, to the great delight of local bird watchers.

A great gray owl that’s taken up residence near Mauston is causing a buzz within the Midwest bird-watching community.

This bird, it seems, is a big deal.

“When a great gray owl shows up in southern Wisconsin, it’s a very big story,” said Ryan Brady, an Ashland-based scientist with the state Department of Natural Resources.

Snowshoe Hike

Like to walk on the snow and check out birds?  Here's the hike for you!

Saturday January 12th the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a Snowshoe Bird Hike starting at 1PM. All skill levels welcome, this hike will include a short snowshoe lesson and then off to the woods to find winter birds.  Snowshoes for adults and children are loaned out free of charge on a first come first serve basis.

Can't make it Saturday?  The park's trails are open seven days a week, sunrise to sunset, and cross-country skis and snowshoes are available free of charge at the Visitors Center.
