Great Grey Owl Moves to Mauston

Rarely seen in Wisconsin, a Great Grey Owl has been spotted near Mauston, to the great delight of local bird watchers.

A great gray owl that’s taken up residence near Mauston is causing a buzz within the Midwest bird-watching community.

This bird, it seems, is a big deal.

“When a great gray owl shows up in southern Wisconsin, it’s a very big story,” said Ryan Brady, an Ashland-based scientist with the state Department of Natural Resources.
